James Kirkham wants a life of adventure, exploring in darkest Africa, but instead, after a shooting at an antiquities auction, finds himself and his fiancé Eve kidnapped by parties unknown and taken to a macabre mansion of horrors such as the world has never known, inhabited by demonic-looking freaks, torturers, and killers. He and Eve will be granted freedom only if he agrees to the "ordeal of seven steps" presided over by the mansion's owner and leader of the bizarre cult that meets within it -- apparently Satan himself! This was the Rocky Horror Picture Show of silent horror films, was lost for years but now has been thoroughly and professionally restored and is not to be missed! A major upgrade from the Squadron DVD edition, with more advanced restoration including artifact removal, flicker elimination, and stabilization. Color tinted, in a new English translation, with new score and sound effects, as had been included in the original release on separate sounds disks which do not appear to have survived.
